| Pina Colada |
The Modern Pina Colada cocktail that we are enjoying all over the World is combination of Rum, Pineapple juice and coconut cream created by a Bartender named Ramon"Monchito) Marerro at the Hilton hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1954. Bartender Marerro was asked by management to create the signature cocktail which can capture the real flavors of the Island. Said that it was taken more than three month to perfecting the recipes and also said after getting boom of this cocktail they used to make gallons of gallons pina colada everyday.
However, The name cocktail Pina Colada was mentioned in one of the Travel Magazine in 1922 even though coconut cream was not contained in the cocktail but Rum, Pineapple juice, lime juice and sugar was there. In Spanish, Pina Colada means Strained Pineapple.
My cocktail was about to finished, Bartender brought another shaken Pina colada which means we can make Pina Colada Two ways shaken and frozen. I was surprising why did I get another cocktail Bartender said that the history of Pina Colada not yet end that's why I brought another Shaken Pina Colada for you. he was so passionate to share the story of what he serve. Pina colada was gaining popularity day by days. over the time they used to make Pina colada gallons of gallons everyday.
Pina colada become so popularity then in 1978 it was declared as a National drink of puerto Rico. and the next year it was cemented into top culture by one of the unknown singer. the songs like, "if you like the pina coladas and getting caught in the rain"
WoW what a creative a bartender, he was just asked to create the signature cocktail but now its become National drink not only that every one of enjoying this cocktail in all over the World.
One things I have noticed that Pina colada can be made with any types of Rum only things you have to think about texture of the cocktail because if you use dark aged Rum the taste and character of the cocktail not gonna be he same. So white Rum is highly recommend for pina colada because it is very clean soft taste that allows to come through out the fresh pineapple taste and creaminess of coconut cream.
Pina Colada Ingredients and Recipes :
White Rum: 60 ml
Coconut Cream: 90 ml (not to be confused with Coconut milk and Cream)
Fresh Pineapple Juice 120 ml
Ice Pineapple Chunk, recommend for blended Pina Colada
How To Make Pina Colada :
Mix All ingredients add few chunks of Fresh Ice pineapple chunk and 150 gm Ice cubes then blend for 10-15 second. then pour in long Hurricane Glass, Garnish with Fresh Pineapple slice and Maraschino cherry.
